Madeleine Burns is the mother of convicted murderer, Dellen Millard. During his trial it was revealed that she passed letters from her son to his girlfriend Christina Noudga despite the fact that a court order prohibited Millard from contacting Noudga.
Although Burns was under subpoena right up until the evidence phase of the trial ended, which meant she was not allowed in the courtroom, she was never called to testify. lt remains unknown how she came to have the letters. While she visited Millard in jail almost every week, there was a glass wall between them, making it impossible to pass anything back and forth. Mail from jail is monitored.
Burns, who chose not to attend the closing arguments at her son’s trial and was not present for the verdict, separated from Dellen’s father Wayne Millard when their only child was three years old. Her relationship with Wayne was patchy but many years after their separation he appointed her a vice president at Millardair. She was also present at Dellen’s and Wayne’s house when police investigated her ex-husband’s sudden death by a gunshot to the head, which was originally ruled a suicide.
After her son was arrested, Burns took care of all his business affairs, selling his many properties and winding down Millardair.
Dellen Millard’s mother remains a figure of mystery and the subject of much speculation, not the least because of her actions after her son’s arrest. You can read more about her role in the book, Dark Ambition: The Shocking Crime of Dellen Millard and Mark Smich.
