More on fake news services in lock-ups

by AnnB on September 06, 2010

This information about Deutsche Börse making use of NTKN technology to provide “the fastest economic data for algo traders”prompted an email exchange with an interested reader. At least for me it is now clear that NTKN, CEP News etc are/were mainly in service for algorithmic traders. I am not convinced that their motive was to [...]

More on the Statistics Canada Lock-ups

by AnnB on May 06, 2010

After learning that NTKN, Econolive and World Business Press are all participants in Statistics Canada lock-ups, where sensitive information is released, I sent a second email to their media representative on Sunday: I have a follow-up question that I would like to ask to the appropriate people at Statistics Canada: Do you have concerns about [...]

It’s been just over two years since I began covering the strange story of fake news agencies that somehow gain access to government lock-ups that are supposed to be accessible only to legit media organizations. What’s more these “news agencies” — which include Need to Know News (NTKN), CEP News, Econolive and World Business Press [...]

In season one, there’s a scene where Lester’s telling Prez how to follow the paper trail of secretive companies and he says that even when people are trying to hide their tracks, they always use the same lawyers. Well, Lester was right. And you know what, it doesn’t surprise [...]

Jed, NTKN, CEP News and Vigilant Futures

by AnnB on July 20, 2009

This post was removed

Since Canadian Economic Press, otherwise known as CEP News, died (or took on yet another new identity perhaps), my curiosity about its American doppelganger, NTKN or Need to Know News, has been piqued. My basic thesis is and always has been that neither CEP nor NTKN are in the news business, but rather they are [...]

Vigilant Futures funded CEP News

by AnnB on July 22, 2008

Confirmed by Vigilant Futures director Arvind Ramanathan in a telephone conversation yesterday. Both he and Marco Gomez worked together at Refco and Gomez also worked at Vigilant Futures before he started CEP News.

Now updated —————— Canadian Economic Press or CEP News is a curious news operation with a puzzling business model. It’s registered as a numbered company with one director, Darren Corbett, who has no background in news and no internet business profile. What’s more, when CEP News needed someone to explain to the Canadian Embassy in [...]
