Just a note to say I’m still here.
Welcome to AnnBrocklehurst.com
When I first started this website back in 2007, I described myself as an “old media vet with a passion for new media. True believer in the power of good content and the net. Sceptical about the potential of Facebook, user generated content, hyperlocal, and the ability of the MSM to survive this revolution.”
Now more than four years later, I can still live with that. While I may have underestimated Facebook, the whole hyperlocal thing, which was being hyped back then, has fizzled and hardly anyone is still talking about user generated content. As for the fate of the MSM, some days I think it will pull through and survive and, other days, I feel like we’re all doomed.
I’ll add more on my journalistic credentials when I have more time, but for now, you can check out my profile on LinkedIn or read some of my old articles in the New York Times archives.
I’m also a dog blogger with two sites that I started as experiments in niche media after reading The Long Tail. They’re successful enough that I don’t know how to quit them, but not successful enough that I can quit my day job. If you’re interested in buying either a premium site about Scottish Terriers or Dachshunds, let’s talk.
Or if you want to get in touch with me about something else, my email is ann.brocklehurst@gmail.com.
News of the New York Times‘ paywall has inspired me to post this link to my work in the newspapers’ archives. Most of it is about either post-unification Germany or investments.

I have been locked out of my Twitter account since last summer. Now, given all the bad things I’ve said about Twitter in the past, you would be forgiven for asking, “And why would you care?” But the thing is there’s a part of me that fears I may be missing out on something big [...]
I’m quoted in two Journal de Montreal articles on the future of newspapers and the Google efect. Ironically, I found these articles via Yahoo. After I was interviewed, I did Google myself to try and find the articles, but they didn’t show up in Google News. I’m guessing it’s because Google News doesn’t have the [...]
